PRIMARY SCHOOL

School history

The St. Wojciech Primary School in Bańska Wyżna has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. Its operations began on September 1, 1911, thanks to the decision of the C.K. National School Council on December 27, 1910. Just eleven years later, in 1922, students began their education in a new wooden school building. This building served for many years until the unfortunate event in 1989 when it burned down, likely set on fire by one of the students, leading to its complete destruction in the fire.

After the tragic event, students continued their education in the adapted premises of the Volunteer Fire Brigade station until June 1994. However, this was not a permanent solution, and on September 9, 1994, the students moved into a newly constructed, this time brick, building. The formal consecration of the new facility was carried out by Rev. Canon Zdzisław Dobrzański, and the opening was conducted by the mayor of the municipality, Stanisław Ślimak, and the head of the Delegation of the Educational Authority in Nowy Targ, Janina Bańka.

On December 14, 1994, thanks to the determination of the school director, Jan Dziedzic, the institution was reinstated with the honorable name of its patron – St. Wojciech. Another significant moment in the school’s history occurred on April 23, 2003, when, on the patron saint’s feast day, the school’s banner was consecrated in the local church.

At the Primary School in Bańska Wyżna, there is also a daycare center, a kindergarten for children from the age of 3, and the School Sports Club.

The school not only boasts educational successes but also cultural achievements. It is home to the regional ensemble “Watra,” which promotes the traditions and culture of the region.

Currently, the position of school director is jointly held by Renata Jagoda. The school, with over a century of history, serves as a vital part of the local community in Bańska Wyżna and is evidence that tradition and modernity can go hand in hand.

School court

In 2017, alongside the Volunteer Fire Brigade station, a modern school sports field was inaugurated. Its centerpiece is a sports field with artificial turf, suitable for playing soccer, volleyball, basketball, and other team sports. Adjacent to the field, there is a spacious recreational area equipped with an outdoor gym. Right next to the square, a viewpoint was constructed, offering a picturesque view of the surrounding mountains.
